Happy to be at Hame.

A scenic Scottish landscape of rolling green hills, mountains in the distance, and purple heather flowers in the foreground under a partly cloudy sky.

Hello, my name is Jayne Bowden. In 2007, my husband and I moved to San Francisco, where I became inspired by the clean lines and modern forms of Bay Area ceramics. After twelve busy years in California, we were glad to return home to the UK, where we found a more peaceful pace of life in the beautiful Scottish countryside.

Returning to Scotland introduced me to the joys - and challenges - of working with porcelain. I love the way porcelain feels to the touch, and often leave surfaces unglazed or use porcelain slip to maintain the clay’s natural texture.

I genuinely enjoy sharing my ceramics experience through teaching. It’s a joy to be with new potters as they build confidence in their skills and take pride in their latest creations!

My studio, Hame Ceramics, is located near the beautiful village of Boarhills, just outside of St Andrews.
